Dive deeper with us, and you might find that the future of firearms looks a lot like a bullpup.įrench Lt. Whether for home defense, sport, or tactical use, the bullpup is a testament to what’s possible when tradition meets innovation. Their compactness doesn’t translate into a trade-off in power or accuracy, and in many scenarios, they offer superior maneuverability.įor the curious, understanding and considering a bullpup design isn’t just about following a trend-it’s about recognizing the evolution of firearm engineering. In an era where efficiency often bumps into innovation in funny ways, bullpup firearms represent a blend of historical design and modern innovation. Imagine the advantage of a 20-inch barrel packed into a space that would traditionally fit only a 16-inch one.īeyond their tactical appeal, for those navigating the maze of gun regulations, bullpups ensure minimal length without stepping into murky legal waters. More on that later.īullpups excel in providing an extended barrel in a confined space, a feature particularly valuable in tight quarters or rapid-response situations. This historical context underscores the design’s original aim: achieving power in a condensed form. Firearms of this unique design were reminiscent of stout, muscular bulldog puppies, and the name naturally followed. The term “bullpup” originates from the 1930s and ’40s U.S. Essentially, they offer the power and accuracy of a long-barrel firearm in a compact form, proving that size isn’t everything. This simple reconfiguration leads to a significant reduction in overall size, while ensuring the barrel’s length and resulting velocity are unaltered. ![]() Distinct from traditional designs, they position the action, trigger, and chamber assemblies behind the trigger area. Bullpup firearms, primarily rifles and shotguns, have emerged as transformative players in the gun industry. ![]()

But we have a higher rate of alcohol abuse than any of those countries. It's true that American has one of the lowest alcohol use rates per capita of first-world countries, with Belgium, Germany, France, the UK, and Australia coming out ahead of us. But the American relationship with alcohol is far from healthy. 70 percent said they have had a drink in the last year, and 56 percent have had a drink in the last month. adults over the age of 18 report that they have drank alcohol at some point. In 1984, the legal drinking age was raised from 18 to 21, and America came into its modern age of alcohol use. We learned a lot about fetal alcohol syndrome and the risks posed by drunk driving. Prohibition was, by and large, a failure, but it still didn’t get repealed until 1930, just after the Great Depression hit.Īfter World War II, alcohol started to rise in popularity again. Organized crime came into its heyday, and speakeasies became a fashion of the day. Alcohol was illegal, at least in name, but underground trade flourished. ![]() This enormous drinking boom led to moral objections, and in 1919, Prohibition was enacted in the U.S. But for some context, by 1830, the average person was consuming just under 2 bottles of 80-proof liquor every week. Before water purification measures, beer and other alcohol were safer to drink than water. Part of this huge alcohol consumption had to do with health, believe it or not. By 1830, that number had doubled, and colonists over the age of 15 drank more than seven gallons of alcohol a year. But American alcohol use isn’t healthy.Īlcohol was a part of North America long before Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue, but the Europeans' arrival cemented alcohol culture in the Americas.Īccording to JSTOR, colonists in 1770 drank an average of three and a half gallons of alcohol a year, about double the modern rate. adults have had a drink at some point in their lives, and more than half have had a drink this month. 1/21/2024 0 Comments Second metatarsal fracture![]() CT is more beneficial than radiography for detecting non-displaced fractures and minimal osseous subluxation. Although ultrasonography can evaluate the DLL, its accuracy for diagnosing Lisfranc instability remains unproven. While conventional radiography can demonstrate frank diastasis at the TMT joints applying weightbearing can improve the viewer’s capacity to detect subtle Lisfranc injury by radiography. Overall, included studies show low bias for all domains except patient selection and are applicable to daily practice. Most MRI studies assessed Lisfranc ligament integrity. CT clarifies tarsometatarsal (TMT) joint alignment and occult fractures obscured on radiographs. For ultrasonography, C1-M2 distance and dorsal Lisfranc ligament (DLL) length and thickness are evaluated. ResultsĬonventional radiography commonly assesses Lisfranc injuries by evaluating the distance between either the first and second metatarsal base (M1-M2) or the medial cuneiform and second metatarsal base (C1-M2) and the congruence between each metatarsal base and its connecting tarsal bone. Methodological quality was assessed by the QUADAS-2 tool. The following data were extracted: imaging modality, measurement methods, participant number, sensitivity, specificity, and measurement technique accuracy. Some articles discussed multiple modalities. Thirty articles were subdivided by imaging modality: conventional radiography (17 articles), ultrasonography (six articles), computed tomography (CT) (four articles), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (11 articles). PubMed and ScienceDirect were systematically searched. Cavus feet are a risk factor for march fracture. To systematically review current diagnostic imaging options for assessment of the Lisfranc joint. Consideration should always be given to osteoporosis and osteomalacia. This fracture always occurs following a prolonged stress or weight bearing, and the history of direct trauma is very rare. In ballet dancers, fracture mostly occurs at the base of the second metatarsal and at Lisfranc joints. In runners, march fracture occurs most often in the metatarsal neck, while in dancers it occurs in the proximal shaft. Although march fractures can occur to the 5th metatarsal, fractures of this bone are more likely to be trauma-related fractures to the diaphysis, termed Jones fractures. Stress fractures can occur at many sites in the body "march fracture" simply refers to a stress fracture specifically of the metatarsals, so named because the injury is sometimes sustained by soldiers during sustained periods of marching. In rare cases in which stress fracture occurs with a cavus foot, plantar fascia release may be appropriate. Wooden-soled shoes or a cast should be given for this purpose. The first line treatment should be reduction of movements for 6 to 12 weeks.
